Recipe - Banana Bread of Awesomeness
on Jan 14, 2010

Lately I've been blending and mixing, cooking and baking a lot. It's probably because I've been spoilt with a new oven and mixer, and it's all so neat! One of the most beloved household foods recently has been Banana Bread, and this is my favourite recipe (so far!!). It's also a great way to use up old bananas. mmm.

Banana & Cinnamon Bread

  • 125g unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 1/2 cups of plain flour, sifted

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp bicarb soda

  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 4 bananas, mashed (overripe is prefferable)

  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

Preheat oven to 160C. Place the butter & brown sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer & beat until pale and creamy. Gradually add the eggs, beating well after each addition. Add the flour, baking powder, bicarb & cinnamon, and beat well to combine. Add the bananas & maple syrup, and stir gently to combine. Spoon the mixture into a lightly greased 20x9cm loaf tin lined with non-stick baking paper. Bake for 1 hour or until cooked when tested with a skewer. Allow to cool in the tin. Serve as it is, drizzled with a little maple syrup, or maple butter.

Maple butter is made from a stick of softened butter, mixed with 1tbsp of maple syrup. Combine syrup and butter in a bowl with a spatula, spoon the mixture onto wax paper, roll & re-shape into a butter stick, twist the ends of the paper and refrigerate.

Sorry about the lack of pictures! The loaf was devoured before I remembered to snap some piccies.

News - 26th November, 2009

We're back after a somewhat disasterous move! And a stocking of pockets and fitteds is imminent!

We've had many additions to the Sugar Shots! household of late, including two cats (Frankie, a lynx point ragdoll and Shadow, a.. lynx point La Perm- the cats are kept well away from all production and storage areas naturally!), a budgie named Verde but called Mr. Buddy Buddy, a terrifying new snap press (terrifying due to the frequency with which I used to catch my fingers in the manual kick press..!), and a huge new production area. Yay!

There are some changes to the pricing of the nappies coming up, due to the Australian Dollar kicking a** and supplies being made available more cheaply across the board. We're passing the savings on to you, as every little bit helps!

Unfortunately Australia Post hasn't decreased their costs- quite the opposite actually! Sugar Shots! will no longer be subsidising the postal rates as heavily as we have in the past. The new flat-rate cost for as many nappies as you order together via Registered Post will be $7.50 (normal, unsubsidised cost would begin at $7.90 for 1-2 nappies).

Express Post will also be made available again (however, this will be entirely at the customers risk. Sugar Shots! recommends Registered Post. Express Post is not insurable, and any damage or losses incurred during transit will not be refunded or replaced by Sugar Shots!). Express Post is at cost, and starts at a rate of $8.00 for 1-2 nappies, to $11.30 for 3+ nappies. If you desire your order to be sent via Express Post, please select the additional product from the 'Postage Add-ons' category prior to checkout.

As it is the festive season, gift-wrapping is available for orders placed from now, until the 26th of December. Gift-wrapping options are available from the Gift-Wrapping category, and must be selected prior to checkout.

xx, and thanks for two years in business so far!!

We'll be away soon, but shall return with extra fabulosity!
on Aug 16, 2009

In the next few weeks I'm going to be moving the website hosts around, and changing the cart provider. Unfortunately this also means that there will be a certain amount of downtime- which is unavoidable but necessary. I'll be reopening the MiniCuteture store, and stocking randomly over there. I have a stack of bits-and-bobs to list (hooray for surprise finds of boxes jammed with nappies). And I'll also be contactable through the MiniCuteture customer service links, but not the same email address. So use the MiniCuteture contact form when the store is open :)

When Sugar Shots! returns in earnest I'm hoping to bring bucketloads of goodies to the party. I'm looking at ways to increase availability to suit demand, while remaining stubbornly fair-trade and grass roots. Sugar Shots! will remain to be an Australian Owned, and Australian Made brand.

Also coming up is that house move I've been mentioning a lot lately. There's light at the end of the tunnel! All that remains now is the carpet installation, and the actual move. The house is more or less ready to go, and awaiting furniture, chickens and a human family. But for now, I think some well-deserved sleep is in order. xx

Blog it! Blog it real good
on Jul 19, 2009

It's 1am, perfect time to begin a blog post.

For those not in the know I'm currently going through the incredibly heinous process of buying a first home. There have been a few very time consuming snags in the road and we don't even have the keys yet!! Merely getting to the settlement has taken a staggering *three months*, through no fault of our own.

Pre-settlement inspection is tomorrowtoday, and the settlement is supposed to be Tuesday.. this is creating a massive time loss as the house is no less then an hour and 45 minutes drive away.. each direction.

Which brings me round to this; I have just completed another great ol' load of pre-order nappies. Some went out on Friday, and I'm hoping to be able to send more out today.. unfortunately this is very reliant on how smoothly everything goes today- I need to get to the post office, buy more satchels, come home and bag up oh, 20 odd orders and complete the sewing on the others. I'm hoping to have everything remaining sent by Thursday, at the very latest.

A new sewing machine has joined the ranks, and although it's taking me time (always time!) to discover and love it's quirks I think it will be a fine addition. Pfaff Performance 2058. I think I'm finally coming around to liking it despite the *unimpressed face* issues in taking ownership and settling into a comfortable sewing rut.. But thankfully 2058 and I are starting to get along, and things aren't looking quite so dark. I'm also stoked to be adding a new snap press into the collective & hope to take delivery of it sometime mid August. So in the interests of having some floor space in the studio, I'll be in all likelihood offering a foot operated snap press for sale shortly- Please inquire via the Contact Us menu if you'd like some more info on it.

And finally, due to the imminent moving of the Sugar Shots! household, I'll be closing the shop up while I have no internet connectivity. I anticipate that will be the first two weeks of August. Any orders not paid for by the 30th will unfortunately be held until SS is back up and running, hopefully by the 3rd week of August. I'll of course find a way to come online as often as I can, as I'm dreadfully reliant on the intertubes.
